Got time to waste? Tower Defense is any easy way to waste it, here is a list of my personal favourite Tower Defense games.
5. Bloons Tower Defense
In Bloons Tower Defense stop the 50 waves of baloons using monkeys welding either darts, cannons or a freeze ray, save up for the Super Monkey to unleash a fury of darts.
Recently Version 2 has been released with extra turret types and upgrades.
4. Random Defense
In Random Defense build up a defense to stop ‘random’ creeps from getting to the finish line.
3. Desktop Tower Defense
Desktop Tower Defense like other tower defense games premise is simple, stop the creep from getting to the end point using turrets, except this game is played on an open map with no paths. You can create your own labyrinth of turrets to guide(and kill) the creep with.
Desktops’ Unique Features
- Create your own path
- Multiple difficulties
- Challenges
2. Protector
Protector is a somewhat unique tower defense game, using RPG elements (leveling, skills) and having artwork reminiscent(maybe stolen?) from the Ultima RPG series.
Protectors’ Unique Features
- A world to conquer
- RPG-esque feel
- Skill Tree
1. Onslaught
Onslaught – “The attackers are coming! They’re trying to fight their way into Area 51 and it’s up to you to build the defences and stop them getting in!”
Onslaughts’ Unique Features
- Adjustable Difficulty
- Sandbox mode
- Custom maps + Map Creation tools
- Challenge games
- AND COMBOS!

Nemesis
I don’t know what it is but I find tower defence games really boring. I just don’t see what it interesting about sitting at your computer for several hours fighting endless waves of enemies to stop them defeating your tower. If it was me, I’d have sold the tower and moved after 5 mins. Gimme an RPG anyday.
