If you miss the classic graphics and sound from Atari, Maverick is an absolute must. With tile based graphics and simple gameplay the only thing missing is the Joystick.
The goal of Maverick is to navigate down to the 15th floor to speak with the magical pig. This is accomplished by clicking the mouse, which fires your guns and moves the hero in the opposite direction. Their are many obstacle instances of spike and cacti. There are also destructible blocks that can be shot to clear them from your path.
The challenge is that players must use their judgment to determine what angle to shoot, when to shoot, and how many times. The levels progress well in difficulty, allowing players to get accustom to the input method.

The gameplay doesn’t get stale because of the alteration of gravity and spaced out introduction of new obstacles. It is also very forgiving as the game saves your progress (for the session) at each new floor and players are granted infinite lives.
The game could use a save feature for between gaming sessions but considering the style and short time required for completion this is not a serious flaw.
It only takes less than an hour to reach the magic pig. I challenge you to find him. Good luck and have fun!

Long live teh Atari!
Edit:
Timmy, why aren’t you using Firefox +Ad-block plus extension?
Jude, it worked for me. On High, instead of having diagonal slashes through everything it all becomes solid green. Good spot on the mute button though, I enjoyed the sounds so much I didn’t even look for one.

Pretty good game but quality button does not work for some apparent reason and the mute button is not there.
But it’s actually interesting.

Cool game, but definitely not meant for being played on a laptop with a track pad.

I don’t want to give away a spoiler here in the comments. Post a thread about it in the forums and I’ll respond.

Nice game – short but good. Interesting gamemechanisms and graphical representation that let this one stand out. Someone knows if the somewhat disappointing ending is hte only? Or are there multiple endings?

I just played through again. I didn’t shoot the pig and only had 22 deaths with the same bad ending. Can anyone beat 22 deaths?
