Flash Game: Vector Runner

Is speed considered helpful in games? Yes, if it is a racing game. No, if it is an avoid-the-obstacle game and Vector Runner is one of them.

Vector Runner is rather simple: move left and right to avoid the obstacles. Being a remake of an older game, it works much faster than its predecessor. The game’s objective is to survive as long as possible before the lives go down. There are powerups which will help you along the way and they are points powerups (green is 500, purple is 1,000), invincibility (gray color), and the shield recharge powerup (blue). It is a pretty simple game and the gameplay is executed perfectly, making it an addicting arcade game.

The graphics are very retro and the types of obstacles are color-coded which is simple and not distracting. It made me feel that I’m playing an old arcade game in the arcades during the arcade games era.

The music is pretty nice and fits the mood a lot. Although it is not that good as MAD, it does fit the gameplay very well. If you hate it, the mute button is there for you.

The flaws, however, are somewhat annoying to this wonderful arcade game. As in many games, the toggle quality button should be here especially for those who are aiming for the impossible badge in Kongregate. To add the annoyance of getting the impossible badge, there is no replay button during gameplay and it takes a while to suicide which frustrates gamers a lot.

The flaws may be annoying but it is a fun, retro arcade game which you should play.

Reminds me of old school Star Wars Arcade, but without sucking.

I enjoyed that game quite a bit. I want to see more like it. Simple games like this are awesome.

I agree, you could easily spend ages playing this game without it getting boring. But the flaws do make it annoying at times.
