The game featured in this week’s edition of the weekly freebie, Little Girl In Underland, was chosen at the suggestion of our site’s founder and head honcho, Colin.
Underland is billed as an adventure game, but I found it to be more like an interactive Flash cartoon…and a weird one at that. In Underland players take on the role of a Russian version of Alice in Wonderland and must help guide her through the communist themed Underland on a quest to slay the queen of democracy. Most of that isn’t clear right of the bat, but that’s part of the game’s odd charm.
The game informs the player right away that it borrows a few elements from American McGee’s Alice. I wasn’t clear on exactly what the connection was until around half way through the game when the cheshire cat appeared and presented me the “fight dice”. Fans of Alice will know what they’re referring to here.

To be honest I wasn’t sure whether I liked Underland or not when I was playing it and I’m not even sure that the title really qualifies as a “game” in any traditional sense of the word. It’s about 10 minutes long, players really only have on “move” available to them and as far as I can tell the whole thing was 100% scripted from start to finish. Nevertheless I expect Underland has earned a spot on my hard drive for the foreseeable future if only as a curiosity to show visiting friends.
So why is it fun? Or funny at least? I don’t know, but at $0.00 and weighing in at a light 7.5 megs it’s probably worth finding out for yourself. Grab the game/movie/thing here and let us know what you think. See you next time.
[Colin's opinion, this game was released as part of the demake competition on TIGS, it is by far my favourite entry and it has a lot of charm in it's quirkyness]

I had a friend watching over my shoulder as I played through this and we both laughed out loud once or twice. I even lol’d during the credit sequence when it became apparent that all the voice actors were drinking wine during production.
