After months of Call of Duty 4 domination, Halo 3 has once again become the #1 most played game on Xbox Live. Major Nelson’s update for the week of July 14th reveals Call of Duty 4 has only been bumped one spot down to 2nd, and Grand Theft Auto IV rounds out the top 3. The full list can be found below.
The cause of this sudden burst in popularity is likely due to Bungie Day (7/7), bringing the price reduction of the Legendary Map Pack and a new multiplayer map. ‘Cold Storage’ is a free map on Xbox Live and is a remake of the Halo: Combat Evolved classic, Chill Out.

E3 is usually the time of year for big game announcements, booth babes with bouncing babylons and exciting developments.
What I witnessed this year was none of these things. It may have well been a sketchy game expo put on in Adelaide by university students. It was just all the game companies releasing new screen shots (some videos too) of games we already new were coming out. They didn’t even tell us when they were coming out!

A lot of confusion has been at hand since the bad presentation at Microsoft’s press conference, but it is finally clear of what Portal’s “sequel” will consist off. It isn’t continuing the story of the first Portal, but rather it’s a bundle of levels. It will be available on the XBLA and will include the original content as well.
Also the creators of Portal:The Flash Version have transferred all 40 levels to the real Portal game and all you need to play it is have Half Life2 and Portal downloaded with Steam. Thus the XBLA version will feature those exact levels which are right now free for PC owners.

So far in our long history(…1 month, 27 days) we have had no clear path, which has been fine since we have just pumping out articles on subjects that interest us.
Now I’d like to start a ‘News’ section (see Chris’s PS3 article) but trying to cover every platform would be suicide, and sadly there is no way we can compete with the big guns like Kotaku, GameSpot or IGN instead we have to find ourselves a niche.
And the niche that I think would be most suited for this site is…

In the most recent years of video games, it would seem a common practice to feature one of the antagonist characters sporting their fair-colored hair in one style or another. Some would argue that it has become the pivotal requirement for a villain for future-games all because of the most famous one there is, the iconic Sephiroth.
Like him or not, his infamy has become the cornerstone of fair-haired villains; it is like him that others strive to become. That is why, in this list, I will present to you the Top 10 Fair-Haired Villains that are not Sephiroth. While not all of them fulfill the traditional “villain” role, those that do not still hold an antagonistic spot in the game’s cast; yet all of the following names have the one, most important thing in common – light hair.

Ah the side-scrolling beat ‘em up, the game where you took on the might of 100 enemies by yourself, picking up Iron bars, swords and god knows what else in order to get closer to the big guy and end the whole street war. But which were the best? Good question, what follows is a fan list, be warned, there is only one game per franchise, so if your individual favourite is missed off, it is not because its awesomeness isn’t known… It is just that another game of the franchise is more awesome!

Ah – The Mech. Mecha. Giant Robot. Android. Many names, one genre. There is something about Mecha games that draws anime fans, teens and the general action gamer. Is it the guaranteed over sized guns, huge explosions, awesome battles or a combination of the above?
Being a gamer since the days of the Atari 2600(and yes, I still have it) I’ve seen MANY different types of games come and go. Some successful, some not so successful. Some games just blew me away, some left me crying for more. Not all mecha games featured giant robots, huge explosions or oversized guns – but they got the job done regardless. This list is my top 10 picks in the Mecha genre of gaming, dating from the 1980’s to present.

Cloud. Link. Mario. Samus. To most, if not all gamers, these names are part of your everyday vocabulary. They are terms that everyone is familiar with, whether you’ve played the games 100 times or once. They have become legends, and have withstood the test of time to remain as such. But where is the love for the ones that gave birth to these legends?
The designers, the producers, the writers obscured by the legacies their games have created; whether they were once known, or never were, gamers today know so little of the genius’s behind the most popular video game franchises in the world. It is my hope that after reading this list, these 10 names selected out of a handful of many more will become just as much of a household name as their creations.

As of the September 10th people in the United Kingdom will have the pleasure to stream TV on their PS3 consoles for the first time.
