Xbox Live Arcade has, in my opinion, always put out some quality strategy board games. Catan and Carcassorone are two of the best examples. With Capcom behind the publishing duties and some of former Bungie developers, this newly formed developer being Certain Affinity, doing the honors of creating Age of Booty to fans of the genre were eagerly anticipating the game would be putting it mildly. I am very happy to report that they delivered and then some.

Paperboy is one of those odd videogames from the 80’s that isn’t about aliens, vampires, monsters or mushroom kingdoms. This is a game about completing a week’s paper round. Of course there’s more to it, but that is the basic premise. In 1984 Atari created this arcade game where you guide a nameless paper delivery boy on his bicycle from one end of the street to the other end, avoiding hazards and striving for that perfect delivery, over seven days/levels.

Penumbra: Overture is free on Gametap until Novermber 5th. To my understanding, as long as you download it before that date you get to keep it for free, indefinitely, so long as you don’t uninstall it. I won’t write a review for it since it’s been out for over a year and reviewed by many sites already.
However, it is an indie game and looks quite amazing. Even if you aren’t interested right now, grab it anyways. It’s free and it looks like an awesome game. If you don’t get it, you might have regrets later when I review the sequel and you realize how awesome the series is. On the positive side, you will have saved yourself the expense of replacement undergarments.

Braid has generated a lot of buzz over the past couple of years. I’ve been dying to play it ever since I first heard previews almost three years ago. Heck, it even won an award for innovation in design from the 2006 Independent Games Festival, despite not coming out until 2008. If ever an independent game has been hyped, it has been Braid. Of course, as with any hyped and long-awaited game, the question everyone is asking is “Was it worth the wait?”
