We had a few notable achievements,

Flash Game: Pandemic 2
By: Phoenix00017 | July 30th, 2008

Pandemic 2 is the hot new game on Kongregate.com (among other gaming websites). Everyone’s playing it, talking in the chat rooms about what countries they’ve infected, how quickly they’re spreading, and what obscene/juvenile names they’ve come up with for their diseases. It even has 4 badge challenges (including a rare impossible-level one) and a card challenge. It also happens to be a terrible game.

Sequels are an interesting aspect of the gaming industry. Lately, it seems, the public has been subjected to a barrage of nothing but sequels; Metal Gear Solid 4, Grand Theft Auto IV, Soul Calibur IV, Call of Duty 4, Halo 3, and the list goes on and on. Let’s not forget the list of games soon to be released: Resistance 2, God of War 3, Final Fantasy XIII, Fable II, Fallout 3, Far Cry 2…you get my point yet?

I don’t blame the developers, though; I blame the consumers (including myself) who continue to buy into the trend of rehashed products with spruced-up graphics. I mean, why spend $50-60 on a game you don’t know about when you could just fork over that cash for a sequel that you know will be about as good as its predecessor?

Still…there are those rare occasions where a sequel is absolutely necessary, in such cases where a developer wants to tell an epic, grand story that would take far too long for one game. In this list, I will count down my top 10 most anticipated sequels that need to hurry the hell up.

Kongai has really taken our interest in the last couple of weeks, it is one of few Flash Games we think would be worthy of holding a Tournament for.

Thus this is the first of hopefully many Casualty Gamer ‘Kongai Tournaments’, and we will be even giving away prizes for the victors! – (although sadly no prizes for the first ‘trial’ tournament).

Sonny 2, It’s coming!
By: Colin Robinson | July 29th, 2008

Sonny one of the first games we reviewed and a true gem of a flash game has just been confirmed of having a sequel in the works.
On the official blog ‘Krin’ one of the game developers posted…

It’s on its way! We’ve been working slowly on it for a while now, but since Tainted Kingdom is done, we’re about to start going full speed on Sonny 2. It’s going to be a lot bigger than the first. We plan to have three different classes, but this time each class will have its own Ability Tree, and so thats 3 times more possible character builds than Sonny 1!

Gaming can be an expensive hobby. It wasn’t that long ago when setting yourself up with a working, online enabled PS3 or X360 and at least one game would have cost you around $600. If you prefer to do your gaming on a PC, then you probably spent even more on your gaming rig and you still can’t quite run Crysis on it’s maxed out settings. Don’t feel bad, neither can we.

To that end, we bring you the first installment of our new weekly feature: Freebie Tuesday

Every Tuesday we’ll be spotlighting a new, quality, non-browser-based game you can play from start to finish absolutely free of charge. It’s sort a of a reminder that gaming needn’t be an expensive hobby as well as a chance for some of you to check out some great games that may have flown under your radar.

This week we’re featuring one of the greatest point and click adventures of all time: Beneath a Steel Sky

Valve’s Director of Marketing Doug Lombardi certainly seems hopeful.

In an interview with OXM, Lombardi was asked about games currently in development at Valve including Half Life 2: Episode 3, Left 4 Dead, and Portal: Still Alive. After responding to a question about Portal DLC, he was asked about bringing old games on to the Xbox Live Arcade. And on Counter-Strike, resonded with: “We’ll certainly consider it,”

When one plays any current action game, the heroes generally fall into one of the following categories; super-soldier, godlike being, physically-dominant warrior, The Hulk. It’s almost a “Get Out of Jail Free” card to portray the main character as one of these stereotypes. Imagine how the Metal Gear series would’ve panned out if Snake wasn’t such a badass?

Granted, Snake is one of very few that fall into this cliché and yet still remains an extremely well-developed character. Others, such as Kratos or Marcus Fenix, remain shallow and one-dimensional figures, possessing pure brute strength and little emotion or regards for anything else.

In this list, I will count down the 5 Most Unlikely Heroes that dare to step away from this over-used practice and shine based on their own personal merits and offbeat surprises.
