Weekly Freebie: A Tale Of Two Kingdoms
By: DanZ | September 30th, 2008

A few of us here at Casualty Gamer are big fans of the point and click adventure games of old. You can imagine my surprise, then, when I heard that a freeware adventure game called A Tale Of Two Kingdoms (ATTK) that closely mimics they style of the classic Sierra adventures had been released almost a year ago and I completely missed it. What was even more surprising, albeit in a pleasant way, was that the game turned out to be really great. Read more… »

Casualty Diversions: AstroMenace
By: DanZ | September 30th, 2008

I stumbled across this gem of a game while searching for something to play on my old laptop. AstroMenace is an overhead shooter that plays a lot like the arcade shooters of old, but with all the graphical bells and whistles we’ve come to expect from newer games. Like Galaga you’ll be blasting wave after wave of enemies who, luckily, only seem to attack using very specific patterns. Read more… »

Review: Megaman 9
By: terpitude71 | September 30th, 2008

Get equipped…with retro greatness!

Before the nuts-and-bolts review, first a story that old school Megaman gamers will appreciate.

In anticipation of Megaman 9’s release, I blew through MM2 and MM3 the week before.  Despite the fact that I hadn’t played them in years, I completed them without much effort.  Shocking for me, since when I was younger, they both caused me great angst, cursing, and controller throwing.  And yet, here I am, crushing both of them with the expertise of a speed runner.  I was worried; was Megaman truly not the great challenge I once thought it to be?  And will the same translate into the 9th edition?  My fears really became heightened when I first began playing Megaman 9.  I began with Galaxy Man’s stage, since I had heard through the grapevine that he was the “first” boss that should be conquered.  I sped through the stage and downed Galaxy Man on the first try.  Without losing a single life.  Now I had real doubts about the “challenge” that MM9 was going to deliver. Flash Game – Super Soldier
By: Nemesis | September 29th, 2008

As a flash gaming enthusiast, there are times when you don’t want to play a popular or well-known game and are just looking for something that is relaxing and simple, but at the same time embodies the reason that you started playing flash games; to play great games that make you feel good. And, it is nice once in a while to find a game that doesn’t have the best graphics or gameplay, may not be made by a well known developer, but still has that special something that makes you want to go back and play it again. When these two situations meet, the result can be truly amazing. One game that falls into this category for me is Super Soldier. Read more… »

Casualty Diversions: Crayon Physics
By: DanZ | September 28th, 2008

I stumbled across this little gem of a game called Crayon Physics over on the excellent experimental gameplay project website. The game’s author, Petri Purho, is currently working on an enhanced version called Crayon Physics Deluxe for commercial release “when it’s ready”, but in the meantime this prototype he made up in 7 days is a blast to play around with. Broken Review: Kaleidoscope Reef
By: JudeMaverick | September 27th, 2008

Dear George W. Bush, As homo sapiens, we procrastinate and we do not like writing long sentences therefore, we abbreviate ‘I am’ to ‘I’m’. This shows how lazy we are and thus, we use shortcuts like littering. We all know littering is bad; our parents have told us umpteen times that littering especially dumping in the sea harms the environment and etc etc. We can’t kick our lazy habit straight away so we need a plan to clean up the seven seas but that is a very massive project so instead, we’ll let the aquatic animals do it. Why? This game convinced me that aquatic animals should do the work and not us. You can complain about its absurdness but we also have other problems to deal with like checking our e-mail for spam!
