Warlords: CtA is the game that caught my attention this week it’s not a particularly great game but it’s fun. Your goal in Warlords is to overcome the enemy by sending waves upon waves of units towards their line… Your opponents goal is same.

Six very good flash games have been reviewed in the last month, although when it comes down to replayability and the sheer amount of time we pumped into it there could only be one choice.

These are the Top 3 Games.

Flash Game: Motherload
By: Avalon | June 27th, 2008

“The game that takes you under the surface of arcade-style gaming and into the roots of fun. Tipping the hat to old favorites such as Dig Dug and Boulder Dash, Motherload incorporates a modern interface, fast-paced gameplay, and an in-depth storyline. Experience exciting gameplay in the substrata of Mars, where you’ll search for the Motherload; A [sic] fabled cache of rare and valuable minerals.”

Motherload while not being one of the latest games from XGen, is one of their more popular offerings. Winner of “Action Game of 2005″ from MiniClip.com, Motherload is a fairly enjoyable game. As the site says the game is fairly reminiscent of Dig Dug with all the umm… digging action. The game is fairly simple initially.

Flash Game: Dino Run
By: Colin Robinson | June 20th, 2008

The apocalypse is here! The wall of doom is closing in! And you have to use your speed and dexterity to outrun it for as long as possible!

Dino Run is the latest game by Pixeljam, in Dino Run you control (non-surprisingly) a dinosaur, you have to navigate him through each level as fast as possible before the impending apocalypse catches up, and while doing so picking up eggs, bones, power-ups and DNA.

Dino Run has a very retro feel to it due to its impressive pixel art work, even when you’re running at full speed you’ll want to slow down just for nostalgia’s sake and admire some of the impressive art work.

The sequel to the best flash Zombie Game is here! (…well it has been here for the last two months but this site is a bit behind) also shouldn’t the Last Stand 1 have been called the Penultimate Stand since it wasn’t really the last stand, maybe they could rename it! *ahem* anyway, the game rawks!!!

The Last Stand 2 picks up shortly after where the first game ended, except with the rescue attempt from the first game failing. Now you have to travel across the state through many zombie infested cities to get to a new extraction point, collecting new weapons, setting traps, meeting survivors and most importantly annihilating zombies along the way.

Although the zombie combat remains the same as the previous game many improvements have been implemented, including the ability to travel between cities, give weapons to the survivors and lay traps, plus of course a bunch of new weapons.

My only complaints are by the time you get the ultimate weapon there isn’t much left to do in the game and I had to crank the brightness right up to see what was happening.

Definitely worth a play

Casualty Tips:

  • Go to Claysburg instead of Whister’s Grover, two automatic guns are found there.
  • If you want to finish quickly you don’t have to go to Fort Tran… You can get uber weapons in Fort Tran but they are no use in Union City.
  • If you go to Union City after the time has expired you get a nice little surprise.
  • The Chainsaw is your best friend.
Flash Game: Sonny
By: Colin Robinson | June 6th, 2008

Use your zombie powers to unlock the mystery of your history. - me

Sonny is another turned based role-playing game, but this time with a storyline! The game play in Sonny is heavily inspired by traditional JRPGs, and unsurprisingly the combat plays a lot like the Final Fantasy combat system. Sonny is also currently the most popular flash RPG alongside Monster’s Den.

In Sonny you play as a zombie brought back to life, but lacking all your memories (tis a plot device). The game’s plot slowly unfolds as you progress, although linear and short it has a surprisingly good plot line, including fully voiced dialog.

Sonny has extremely high production values for a flash game, although I did a few a quibbles with it; there isn’t enough difference between the items, cheating, and the game could have been longer. Although all in all it’s definitely a game worth checking out.

Casualty Tips:

Also as mentioned before, it’s quite easy to cheat in Sonny…

Once in the game:

  • Go to your inventory
  • Select any weapon/armor in your inventory
  • Click the options button (ensure the weapon is your cursor)
  • Then click the Red background around the options menu.

Your cursor will revert back to normal and you’ll have all the stats added for whatever item you selected.

Music Catch

Very Catchy

Music Catch caught me a bit off guard, mainly because the preview picture didn’t catch my interest. However after playing the game I agree with the masses; this is a very nice game.

The goal of the game is to catch as many green and golden notes as possible while avoiding the reds one. The notes are released in time with the music, e.g when the music is quiet the game is easy but as the music picks up tempo and volume more and more notes pour out.

Although the game only has one level it is still definitely a unique and fun game.

The song featured in Music Catch has now been released for download, “Before Dawn” by Isaac Shepard, get it!

Rating:

Definitely worth a look

Play It!

Monster’s Den: Book of Dread is a ‘flash turn based strategy team dungeon crawl RPG’(phew…), which seems heavily inspired by Dungeons and Dragons.

When you start Monster’s Den you make a team of 4 characters to assault the dungeons with. You can choose between 7 different fantasy classes for your characters, the Warrior, Rogue, Conjurer, Barbarian, Ranger, Cleric or Mage. As you descend into the dungeon your characters level up, learn new skills and find new equipment.

Item collection is similar to World of Warcraft, where you have standard, uncommon, rare and legendary (rarity of each in order), you can also go to a vendor to sell looted items and purchase new goods.

There are three campaigns to pick from, two standard dungeons and a survival campaign, in the survival campaign you have to fight an almost infinite amount of enemies to see how long you can survive.

Monster’s Den is a highly addictive game and very polished, it’s very easy to get caught up in the game and continuously just want to do one more level, then one more, then another one.

My only disappointment was the lacking storyline, as although you can go indefinitely deeper and deeper into the dungeon the storyline finishes after level 10 on both campaigns.

Casualty Tips:

  • Make sure you set your flash storage area to maximum, otherwise it may chug.
  • Having a cleric paired with a conjurer is extremely useful at the deeper levels.
  • Survival, make sure you have a ranger in your team with Nature’s Balm + Speed Increase, as once cast they carry on for every wave.

/Off to do one more level.
